ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The University of Michigan has hired West Virginia coach Rich Rodriguez as their new head football coach, according to published reports on Sunday.
Rodriguez will replace Lloyd Carr, who announced he would retire after this season.
According to the Charleston (W.Va.) Gazette, Rodriguez had a 10-minute meeting with his team on Sunday afternoon, told the 11th-ranked Mountaineers that he was leaving for Michigan and went back to his office.
Rodriguez met with Michigan's president and athletic director on Friday in Toledo.
